Case Study

RIDC Westmoreland

In 2010, RIDC was approached when the Sony Corporation closed its Westmoreland manufacturing facility, leaving 2.8 million square feet of vacant space and displacing thousands of workers. In partnership with Westmoreland County, RIDC has since rehabilitated the facility, now called RIDC Westmoreland, into a multi-tenant, high-growth manufacturing hub. The building has large utility capacity, direct railroad access and excellent connections to the state highway system. Siemens Energy  occupies nearly 300,000 square feet in the property, which is also home to companies like Intervala and City Brewery, as well as Westmoreland Community College, which provides advanced manufacturing workforce training on site.

RIDC Westmoreland will also be the home of PennSTART, a state-of-the-art shared test track, research and training facility for technology companies and first responders.
