RIDC DONATES LAND TO MCKEESPORT TO IMPROVE TRAIL LOCATION
McKeesport, PA—November 14, 2022—Regional Industrial Development Corporation of Southwestern PA (RIDC) has donated 2.25 acres with a value of approximately $200,000 to the City of McKeesport for future relocation of a piece of trail that is part of the Great Allegheny Passage. The trail currently traverses through RIDC’s Industrial Center of McKeesport, and this land donation will enable it to be moved to a preferable location adjacent to the Monongahela riverfront.
“This donation enables the McKeesport community to forge a scenic, new path for their portion of the Great Allegheny Passage and provides long-term public access to the riverfront,” said Donald F. Smith, Jr., RIDC President.
“We’ve talked about creating this new path for a long time and with RIDC’s generous donation, we’ll be able to make that dream a reality,” said McKeesport Mayor Michael Cherepko. “We are fortunate to have our own ‘point’ at the confluence of the Monongahela and Youghiogheny rivers. It will a scenic destination along the Great Allegheny Passage.”
“We’re grateful to Senator Jim Brewster and Representative Austin Davis for their steadfast support of riverfront amenity development in the Mon Valley,” said Timothy White, RIDC Senior Vice President of Business Development and Strategy. “And to property occupants Dura-Bond and US Steel for accommodating these trail realignment enhancements.”
