RIDC SELLS MCKEESPORT LAND PARCEL TO RIVER MATERIALS, INC. TO EXPAND INTERMODAL FACILITY

McKeesport, PA—October 22, 2021—Regional Industrial Development Corporation of Southwestern (RIDC) sold 9.92 acres to River Materials, Inc. in the Industrial Center of McKeesport for $595,200. The company is planning on building a new 10,000-square-foot operations center at the entrance of the property.

In November 2019, RIDC sold 8.32 acres in McKeesport to River Materials, which the company then used to construct a new intermodal facility on a total of 18 acres of the former U.S. Steel National Works. The remaining 9.68 acres, once leased to River Materials, has now been sold to the company.

River Materials President Gina M. Shank and Chairman Clifford Wise both said: “RIDC has been a great partner in helping us overcome development obstacles at a site that was once considered unusable. Its proximity to the Monongahela River and CSX Railroad’s Riverton Yard makes it an otherwise ideal location for us that will make transporting shipments easier. We are proud to be a part of the McKeesport community and provide new jobs there and in the surrounding area.”

River Materials is a Braddock-based network of companies that operates steel recycling, transportation and materials-handling businesses, providing services to power plants, construction material businesses, recycling centers and other industries throughout Pennsylvania. Its intermodal facility houses warehousing, processing and recycling operations and includes buildings for offices, storage, light manufacturing, as well as railroad car and barge remediation.

RIDC President Donald Smith said: “The Mon Valley is attracting a lot of attention and we’re proud to be at the center of so much activity. With proximity to the City and the type of large, developable sites available, the Mon Valley is building some good momentum for the future. Large projects and commitments like the one being made by River Materials demonstrate the viability and the value of this region.”

RIDC Senior Vice President for Development Tim White said: “Officials like County Executive Fitzgerald, Mayor Cherepko, Representative Davis and Senator Brewster make it possible for RIDC to fulfill its mission – developing properties that create jobs and spur economic revitalization. They have been instrumental in our efforts to redevelop the old U.S. Steel National Works site.”
