Donald F. Smith, Jr., president of the Regional Industrial Development Corporation (RIDC) and a member of the governor’s transition subcommittee on innovation, points to the need to expand the region’s innovation economy from R&D to commercialization and manufacturing of products. This will allow the Pittsburgh area to compete more effectively for the larger companies that are still creating thousands of jobs across the country, and support the adoption of new technologies into existing business in ways that benefit their workforce and help them grow.
