AMERICAN TEXTILE COMPANY SIGNS LEASE FOR 98,000 SQUARE FEET IN RIDC’S INDUSTRIAL CENTER OF MCKEESPORT

PITTSBURGH, PA – September 20, 2018 – American Textile Company has signed a lease for 98,000 square feet for their warehousing and distribution operations in the Manor I building at RIDC’s Industrial Center of McKeesport, formerly US Steel’s National Tube Works. They will initially create 30 new jobs at this facility, building upon a workforce of 250 in Duquesne and more than 1,000 employees globally.

“As our pillow business continues to grow, we need this additional space to cover growing demand,” said Lance Ruttenberg, CEO and President of American Textile Company. “The location puts our warehousing and distribution operations closer to interstate highway connections, allowing us to service the Northeast more cost effectively. It is also close to our corporate headquarters and existing Northeast manufacturing and distribution operation in Duquesne, PA.”

For more than 90 years, American Textile Company has focused on bedding – including pillows, mattress pads, protectors, blankets, sheets and comforters – that improve sleep and daily life. Their innovative fabrics and technologies address needs ranging from allergy to temperature regulation.

“American Textile has been an important part of the ‘fabric’ of Pittsburgh’s economy for many years,” said Donald Smith, President of RIDC. “Its growth speaks to some of the region’s valuable assets: availability of a talented workforce to fuel expansion and proximity to national transportation and distribution networks.  Clearly, even with the growth of our technology and innovation sectors, manufacturing will continue to be a core segment of our economy for years to come.”

RIDC’s Senior Vice President for Development, Tim White, said: “The public officials representing this area – County Executive Fitzgerald, Mayor Cherepko, Representative Davis and Senator Brewster – are focused on economic development and their support for this site has contributed significantly to its success to date.  RIDC’s mission is to develop properties like this one in ways that are both financially sound and beneficial to the community.  We’re grateful for the support of these elected leaders.”

County Executive Fitzgerald said: “We’re delighted to see a successful company like American Textile continue to grow and thrive in our county. It’s great to see development that had been focused in our urban core now being seen in other municipalities. American Textile’s commitment to the Mon Valley is extraordinary. I have no doubt that their achievements in Duquesne will be replicated across the river in McKeesport. Congratulations to everyone involved.”

Mayor Cherepko said: “The City of McKeesport welcomes American Textile Company to our growing Industrial Center, which has seen a rise in activity over the past year as we continue to bring a variety of businesses into our economy.”

Representative Davis said: “Economic development and growth is vital to the success of the Mon Valley. I’m thrilled that American Textile has decided to expand its presence in our region. This expansion will help them meet the demands of their customers all while creating family sustaining jobs for our residents. As a State Representative, I will continue to work towards the redevelopment of our brownfield site and continued economic growth in the Mon Valley.”

Senator Brewster said: “American Textile’s expansion into McKeesport‘s RIDC Park is another example of how the Mon Valley continues to grow.  The expansion not only brings employment opportunities but also strength to the local economy.  I am proud to have American Textile in my district and look forward to their continued growth.”
